Chargeback evidence for Stripe and PayPal disputes

Chargeback evidence automation responds to a new Stripe or PayPal dispute by gathering the order, delivery proof and customer messages into one pack. It drafts a response suited to the dispute reason and reminds the owner to review and submit it before the deadline.

An example of how the studio would build it. No live services are connected.

From a payment dispute to an evidence pack ready to submit.

  1. Step 01

    Dispute opened

Stripe or PayPal reports a new dispute through a webhook, with the reason and the response deadline.

  2. Step 02

    Order found

Find the matching Squarespace order by payment reference, with items, addresses and fulfilment details, where your plan includes API access.

  3. Step 03

    Evidence gathered

Collect tracking and delivery confirmation, customer emails and the terms they agreed to at checkout.

  4. Step 04

    Response drafted

Draft a short summary suited to the dispute reason, with each piece of evidence labelled.

  5. Step 05

    Owner reviews

Post the pack to Slack with the deadline and reminders, and the owner submits it in Stripe or PayPal.

The result

Disputes answered on time, with the facts in one place.

Nothing is submitted automatically, because a dispute response usually can’t be changed once it is sent. Each dispute gets one pack, and reminders stop as soon as a response is recorded.

Before we connect it.

Where this is useful

Useful for online shops and makers whose evidence is scattered across the shop, the courier and the inbox, so deadlines are easy to miss. A sensible first version handles the most common reason, such as an item the customer says never arrived, and sends every other reason to a person with the order details attached.

What we need to connect

  1. 01Stripe and PayPal dispute webhooks, with API access to read each dispute’s details and deadline.
  2. 02Order and fulfilment data from Squarespace, including tracking numbers, where your plan offers API access.
  3. 03Your delivery and refund terms, where customer emails are kept and the Slack channel or owner who submits responses.

What needs careful handling

Some disputes are better settled with a refund than contested, such as a genuine duplicate charge, so the pack offers that option to the owner. Signed-for delivery is stronger evidence than a tracking update, and a parcel left in a safe place may not be enough on its own. Deadlines differ between providers and dispute types, so reminders follow each provider’s stated deadline rather than a fixed rule.

Questions people ask.

Will this win my disputes?

No tool can promise that, because the card issuer or PayPal makes the decision. What it does is make sure a clear, relevant response goes in on time, rather than none at all.

Can it submit the evidence automatically?

It could, but responses are usually final once submitted, so the owner reviews each pack first. Routine cases with strong evidence could later move to a quicker sign-off, if you choose.
